What Is Happening

A Nation Torn Apart - Again.

Over 1.2 million people – roughly one in five Lebanese residents – have been forced to flee their homes, representing one of the fastest-growing displacement crises the world has seen. Many are experiencing displacement for the second time in less than two years, having only recently returned from the 2024 conflict.

Collective shelters – schools, mosques, community halls – have been overwhelmed within days of opening. Hundreds of thousands are sleeping in cars, on streets, or in unfinished buildings. Food insecurity, lack of clean water, and the absence of essential shelter items like blankets and mattresses have become life-threatening realities for families across the country.

Among the most vulnerable are children, elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and female-headed households – those with the fewest resources and the least ability to reach safety.

Timeline Of The Crisis & HCI Intervention

MAR 2-7, 2026

Mass Displacement Begins: Over 822,000 people, including nearly 300,000 children, register as displaced within the first week of war. Hundreds of collective shelters open and immediately reach capacity.

Crisis Deepens: Displacement surpasses 1.2 million. Israel expands forced evacuation orders south of the Zahrani River, cutting off 150,000 people from humanitarian aid.

Today: Over 1,600 killed, 4,600+ wounded, and 1.2 million displaced. HCI remains on the ground, delivering food and shelter to families in Saida. The need is greater than ever.

Who Needs Help Most

The Most Vulnerable Are Being Left Behind.

Children

Over 350,000 children have been displaced. At least 126 have been killed since March 2. Many are traumatised, malnourished, and without access to education or safe shelter.

Female-Headed Households

Women carrying entire families alone have the fewest resources to flee safely or access aid. They are among HCI's primary beneficiaries in Saida.

Elderly Individuals

Many elderly people cannot evacuate quickly, are unable to sleep on hard shelter floors, and have lost access to critical medications.

Persons with Disabilities

Mobility challenges make it nearly impossible for people with disabilities to escape conflict zones or access services in overcrowded shelters. (Source: OCHA Flash Update)

Twice-Displaced Families

Many families had only just returned home after the 2024 conflict, rebuilding from nothing - only to be forced to flee again with even less than before. (Source: UNHCR / Al Jazeera)

Healthcare Crisis

47 primary health care centres and 5 hospitals in the South and Beirut's suburbs have been forced to close. Strikes have injured or killed healthcare workers on duty. (Source: OCHA)

Of the UN's $308 million emergency appeal, only $94 million has been received. The need is what has been funded. Every donation counts

About HCI

On The Ground. Accountable. Trusted

Human Concern International (HCI) is a Canadian Muslim charity with decades of experience delivering humanitarian aid in crisis zones around the world. In Lebanon, our team moved rapidly to assess needs and begin distribution in Saida – one of the areas most overwhelmed by displaced families from the south.

Our approach is direct: we conduct rapid assessments, identify the most vulnerable households – including female-headed families, elderly individuals, and persons with disabilities – and deliver ready-to-eat food, family-cooked meals, blankets, mattresses, and hygiene essentials.

We are transparent about where every dollar goes, and we issue official charitable tax receipts for every donation. Your Zakat and Sadaqah are fully eligible for this emergency appeal.
