Laylatul Qadr UK 2026

Laylatul Qadr 2027 UK: Date, Signs and Night of Power

Laylatul Qadr 2027, the Night of Power, is expected to fall on one of the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan, with the 27th night most likely on the evening of Friday 5 March 2027 in the UK. It is the holiest night of the year, a night the Qur’an calls better than a thousand months. Worship and charity on this night carry reward beyond measure, so this is the night to pray, make du’a, and give your Zakat or Sadaqah through Human Concern UK so your good deed may land on the night that is better than eighty years of worship.

For Muslims across the United Kingdom, from London and Birmingham to Bradford, Leicester, Glasgow and Manchester, Laylatul Qadr is the peak of Ramadan. Mosques fill for night prayer, families wake for Qiyam, and many spend the final nights in i’tikaf, hoping to catch this single blessed night.

When Is Laylatul Qadr 2027 in the UK?

  • Laylatul Qadr 2027 is expected within the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan, which begin on the evening of Saturday 27 February 2027. The 27th night, most commonly linked with Laylatul Qadr, is expected on the evening of Friday 5 March 2027.

An Islamic night begins at sunset, not at midnight. So the 27th night starts after Maghrib on the 26th day of fasting and lasts until Fajr. If you plan to worship, be ready before sunset rather than late in the night.

What Is Laylatul Qadr?

Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Power or Night of Decree, is the night on which Allah first revealed the Qur’an. It is the single most valuable night of the entire year. Allah says, “Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night” (Ad-Dukhan 44:3), and He named a whole surah after this night.

In Surah Al-Qadr, Allah describes the night in full. He says the Qur’an was sent down on it, that it is better than a thousand months, that the angels and the Spirit descend by their Lord’s permission for every matter, and that it is peace until the break of dawn (Al-Qadr 97:1 to 97:5). Few passages in the Qur’an give a single night such honour.

Why Is Laylatul Qadr Better Than a Thousand Months?

Laylatul Qadr is better than a thousand months because Allah has multiplied its reward beyond normal measure. Allah says, “The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months” (Al-Qadr 97:3). A thousand months is more than eighty three years, longer than most lifetimes.

This means sincere worship on this one night can outweigh a lifetime of worship. A single prayer, a single du’a, or a single act of charity given on Laylatul Qadr may carry more reward than the same act repeated for decades. That is why Muslims put so much effort into these nights.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also gave a direct promise of forgiveness. He said that whoever stands in prayer on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and hope for reward will have their past sins forgiven (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). Sincerity is the key. The reward is tied to faith and to seeking Allah alone.

Why Is Laylatul Qadr Hidden?

The exact night of Laylatul Qadr is kept hidden as a mercy, so that Muslims worship across all the last ten nights rather than only one. The Prophet ﷺ told his companions to seek it in the odd nights of the last ten (Sahih al-Bukhari).

The wisdom is clear. If a person worships sincerely on every odd night, they will not miss Laylatul Qadr, and they gain the reward of all those nights along the way. Treating each odd night as if it could be the night is the safest and most rewarding approach.

Signs of Laylatul Qadr

Islamic teachings describe a few signs of Laylatul Qadr, though only Allah knows for certain which night it is. The clearest authentic sign appears the morning after.

  • The sun rises without strong rays. Ubayy ibn Ka’b, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the sun rises on the morning after Laylatul Qadr with a soft, clear light and no piercing rays (Sahih Muslim). This is the most reliable reported sign.
  • A calm and peaceful night. Many narrations describe the night as unusually still and moderate, neither too hot nor too cold, with a deep sense of tranquillity.
  • A feeling of serenity in worship. Many believers describe an unusual calm and focus in their prayer on this night.

Because these signs are usually noticed only after the night has passed, they cannot help you plan. The practical lesson is simple. Do not wait for a sign. Worship on every odd night.

Signs of Laylatul Qadr

What to Do on Laylatul Qadr

The best acts on Laylatul Qadr are night prayer, du’a, recitation of the Qur’an, and charity. Together they help you seek forgiveness and draw closer to Allah on the most rewarding night of the year.

Pray Qiyam al-Layl

Stand in voluntary night prayer, including Tahajjud, with focus and calm. The Prophet’s promise of forgiveness is tied to standing in prayer on this night with faith and hope for reward.

Make Du’a

Ask Allah for forgiveness, mercy, and guidance for yourself, your family, and the Ummah. Prepare your most important du’as in advance so you can pour out your heart without searching for words.

Recite the Qur’an

Read and reflect on the book that was first revealed on this very night. Even a small daily portion, read with understanding, keeps you connected to the reason this night is so honoured.

Perform I’tikaf

Spend time in spiritual retreat in the mosque if you are able. The Prophet ﷺ observed i’tikaf in the last ten nights every year (Sahih al-Bukhari). Even a short retreat over a weekend protects your focus.

Give Charity

Increase your Sadaqah and Zakat, and schedule your giving across the odd nights so a donation may land on Laylatul Qadr. Charity on this night carries reward that no ordinary night can match.

Dua for Laylatul Qadr

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, a short du’a to say on this night when she asked what to recite if she found Laylatul Qadr (Jami at-Tirmidhi, graded sahih).

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Transliteration

Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni

Translation

O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me.

Repeat this du’a often through the last ten nights.

Can We Give Charity on Laylatul Qadr?

Giving charity on Laylatul Qadr is one of the surest ways to benefit from the night, because your reward may be multiplied by the night that is better than a thousand months. Allah compares charity to a single seed that grows into seven ears, each holding a hundred grains, and He multiplies it further for whom He wills (Al-Baqarah 2:261).

Because no one knows the exact night, a simple plan works best. Decide your charity before the last ten nights begin, then spread your giving across each odd night. That way your Sadaqah reaches a family in need even on a night when you are asleep, unwell, or deep in worship.

Through initiatives such as Sadaqah and Zakat, your giving through Human Concern UK helps provide food, clean water, medical care, and education to vulnerable families in the communities we serve
