Over 1.2 million people – roughly one in five Lebanese residents – have been forced to flee their homes, representing one of the fastest-growing displacement crises the world has seen. Many are experiencing displacement for the second time in less than two years, having only recently returned from the 2024 conflict.
Collective shelters – schools, mosques, community halls – have been overwhelmed within days of opening. Hundreds of thousands are sleeping in cars, on streets, or in unfinished buildings. Food insecurity, lack of clean water, and the absence of essential shelter items like blankets and mattresses have become life-threatening realities for families across the country.
Among the most vulnerable are children, elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and female-headed households – those with the fewest resources and the least ability to reach safety.
Mass Displacement Begins: Over 822,000 people, including nearly 300,000 children, register as displaced within the first week of war. Hundreds of collective shelters open and immediately reach capacity.

Over 350,000 children have been displaced. At least 126 have been killed since March 2. Many are traumatised, malnourished, and without access to education or safe shelter.
Women carrying entire families alone have the fewest resources to flee safely or access aid. They are among HCI's primary beneficiaries in Saida.
Many elderly people cannot evacuate quickly, are unable to sleep on hard shelter floors, and have lost access to critical medications.
