Over 1.2 million people – roughly one in five Lebanese residents – have been forced to flee their homes, representing one of the fastest-growing displacement crises the world has seen. Many are experiencing displacement for the second time in less than two years, having only recently returned from the 2024 conflict.
Collective shelters – schools, mosques, community halls – have been overwhelmed within days of opening. Hundreds of thousands are sleeping in cars, on streets, or in unfinished buildings. Food insecurity, lack of clean water, and the absence of essential shelter items like blankets and mattresses have become life-threatening realities for families across the country.
Among the most vulnerable are children, elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and female-headed households – those with the fewest resources and the least ability to reach safety.
Mass Displacement Begins: Over 822,000 people, including nearly 300,000 children, register as displaced within the first week of war. Hundreds of collective shelters open and immediately reach capacity.

Crisis Deepens: Displacement surpasses 1.2 million. Israel expands forced evacuation orders south of the Zahrani River, cutting off 150,000 people from humanitarian aid.
Strikes Near Hospital: An Israeli airstrike hits 100 metres from Rafik Hariri University Hospital – Lebanon’s largest public medical facility – injuring 39 people. The death toll crosses 1,400. (Source: Al Jazeera)
Today: Over 1,600 killed, 4,600+ wounded, and 1.2 million displaced. HCI remains on the ground, delivering food and shelter to families in Saida. The need is greater than ever.

Over 350,000 children have been displaced. At least 126 have been killed since March 2. Many are traumatised, malnourished, and without access to education or safe shelter.
Women carrying entire families alone have the fewest resources to flee safely or access aid. They are among HCI's primary beneficiaries in Saida.
Many elderly people cannot evacuate quickly, are unable to sleep on hard shelter floors, and have lost access to critical medications.

In Lebanon, our team moved rapidly to assess needs and begin distribution in Saida – one of the areas most overwhelmed by displaced families from the south.
Our approach is direct: we conduct rapid assessments, identify the most vulnerable households – including female-headed families, elderly individuals, and persons with disabilities – and deliver ready-to-eat food, family-cooked meals, blankets, mattresses, and hygiene essentials.
