The Clean Water Crisis Is Putting Lives at Risk

Clean water is rarely noticed until it’s gone

This Ramadan, as we reflect on compassion and our responsibility to care for those in need, we’re reminded that water, so often taken for granted, is a lifeline for millions.

Over 2 billion people worldwide still lack access to safely managed drinking water. Without it, children fall sick, learning is disrupted as schools struggle to operate, and families face daily challenges just to survive.

Clean water is a basic need for every person, and its importance becomes even more pronounced during Ramadan.

For those who are fasting, unsafe water can cause serious health problems, making daily worship and well-being much more difficult. Yet millions of families struggle to access safe water every day.

This blessed month, you are invited to share your blessings with those who lack even this essential need.

The best charity is giving water to drink.” (Ibn majah 2798)

A small act today can bring ongoing relief and reward this Ramadan.

A Gift That Lasts Beyond Ramadan

Your support can become Sadaqah Jariyah, a form of continuous charity that keeps giving. By helping provide clean water, you’re not only responding to immediate needs; you’re helping create lasting impact. Every well, water station, or safe water project continues to benefit communities long after it is installed.

The Prophet ﷺ said: When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 4005)

Turning Donations Into Lasting Access to Clean Water

Through sustainable WASH projects, HCI works to ensure your charity reaches those who need it most. From schools to families in crisis, your support provides reliable access to clean water, protecting health, restoring hope, and spreading the blessings of Ramadan to communities who lack even this most basic need.

From Risk to Reliability: A School Transformed

At Kodai No. 1 Public School in Charsadda, Pakistan, nearly 900 students and staff relied on a shallow, seasonal hand pump. During extreme heat, it frequently ran dry. Testing later confirmed bacterial contamination, exposing children to preventable illness and leaving the school without adequate water for sanitation or daily use.

Following a comprehensive needs assessment, HCI installed a 120-foot solar-powered borewell, complete with a pump and storage system. The system operates independently of electricity, ensuring uninterrupted access to clean water throughout the school day.

Today, 902 people benefit daily. Health outcomes have improved. Attendance has stabilized. The school can focus on education rather than crisis mitigation. This is what happens when humanitarian aid invests in sustainable infrastructure rather than short-term fixes.
