(Asma-ul-Husna)

A Journey into the Divine

There’s something deeply comforting about calling on Allah by name. Not just “God” in a general sense, but by the very names He gave us to know Him, the Asma-ul-Husna, the 99 Names of Allah.

Each one holds weight. Each one whispers a different kind of mercy, justice, or wisdom. And when you start to know them, really know them, something changes. How you think. How you pray. How you carry pain. Even how you give.

Because the more you know Allah, the more you understand why giving, helping, forgiving, all of it, starts with Him.

What Are the 99 Names of Allah?

The 99 names of Allah, also called Asma-ul-Husna (meaning “the Most Beautiful Names”), are names and attributes of Allah mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith. They describe His essence, His actions, and His mercy.

“And to Allah belong the best names, so call upon Him by them[…]”
– Surah Al-A’raf 7:180

These aren’t just poetic titles. They’re invitations to reflect, to connect, to surrender.

Why It Matters, Spiritually and Emotionally

When you’re grieving, Al-Lateef reminds you that Allah is gentle.

When you feel forgotten, Al-Basir reminds you that Allah sees.

When you’re struggling to forgive yourself, Al-Ghafoor reminds you that Allah is more forgiving than you can imagine.

And when you want to give, even a little, Ar-Razzaq reminds you that provision never runs out when it comes from Him.

Each name is a doorway. And each doorway brings you closer.

How to Incorporate Asma-ul-Husna into Your Life

Use Them in Du’a

When making du’a, try addressing Allah by the name that best fits your need.

“Ya Shafi, heal me.”
“Ya Razzaq, provide for me.”
“Ya Salaam, give my heart peace.”

Teach Them to Your Kids

Make a habit of sharing one name a week at the dinner table. Make it relatable. Ask your children, “Can you think of a time when Allah showed his wisdom, Al-Hakeem (The Wise), in your life?”

Let Them Shape How You Give

Knowing Allah is Al-Karim (The Generous) should make us more generous. Knowing He is Ar-Raheem should soften how we treat others. And recognizing Him as Ash-Shakur (The Appreciative) should remind us that even a small sadaqah is never forgotten.

Divine Attributes

HCI and the Names of Allah, A Mission Rooted in Divine Attributes

At Human Concern International, our work is fueled by the very names we believe in:

  • Ar-Rahman inspires us to serve with mercy

  • Ar-Razzaq reminds us that every donation will be multiplied

  • Al-Adl (The Just) urges us to support vulnerable communities

  • Al-Karim inspires us to give without limits

Every water well, food pack, orphan sponsorship, or the medical aid we deliver is our attempt to reflect a little bit of Allah’s mercy, justice, and provision on earth.
