Sadaqah & Sadaqah Jariyah

Sadaqah: A Gift of Kindness and Compassion

During the blessed month of Ramadan, the reward for acts of charity is multiplied, making it the perfect time to give Sadaqah. Sadaqah, in its simplest form, is voluntary charity given to those in need, and it can take many forms – from offering money and food to providing time and effort to help others.

Every act of kindness, no matter how small, is a way to earn the pleasure of Allah (SWT).

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Even a smile is charity.”

This highlights that the act of giving is not limited to wealth; it can be as simple as showing compassion or assisting others in need. Whether you’re helping a neighbour, supporting a local charity, or offering a kind word, Sadaqah is a way to purify your wealth and draw closer to Allah (SWT).

Giving Sadaqah during Ramadan brings even greater rewards, and it is a beautiful way to increase your deeds. Every time you give, whether it’s food to a hungry person or support to someone in distress, you are contributing to the well-being of others, and in return, you earn the endless blessings and mercy of Allah (SWT).

Sadaqah Jariyah: Charity That Continues to Reward

Sadaqah Jariyah, or ongoing charity, is one of the most rewarding forms of giving in Islam. Unlike one-time donations, Sadaqah Jariyah provides continuous benefits, earning you rewards long after you have passed from this world.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “When a [person] dies, all [their] good deeds come to an end except three: Ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), beneficial knowledge, and a righteous [child] who prays for [the deceased parent].”

Imagine the reward of having a well you funded provide water to those in need, with every sip taken earning you a reward. Or consider the continuous prayers of someone who benefited from the skills training you sponsored, using those skills to earn a living for years to come. Sadaqah Jariyah ensures that your charity continues to benefit others long after you have left this world.

Giving Sadaqah Jariyah is a powerful way to create an enduring legacy of good. Whether through building schools, digging wells, or supporting healthcare projects, your contribution will keep benefiting those in need for years, and each time someone benefits, you earn reward.

This Ramadan, take the opportunity to make an impact that lasts. By giving to Sadaqah Jariyah, you not only help those in need, but you also secure continuous blessings for yourself and your loved ones, both in this life and the next.
